We hear you…

Improved parking in our downtown district has been a topic of discussion and we are collaborating with the City to do something about it. In 2020, the Roswell Mayor and City Council passed a resolution asking the Roswell DDA to conduct a thorough parking assessment of the Canton Street area to determine the best method to improve downtown parking and "to increase such parking to benefit both local businesses and Roswell citizens".

Follow The Progress

The assessment has been completed and presented to both the DDA and City Council.

Stantec presented its parking assessment to the DDA

The analysis conducted by Stantec considered on-site usage counts on several different evenings, stakeholder interviews and a public survey of Canton Street patrons and employees.

Stantec selected to do a Parking Assessment

In October 2020, the DDA executed a contract with Stantec as a step toward fulfilling the city Council resolution. DDA Directors, Tom Smith, Michael Thompson and David White, are leading the project with Stantec to find solutions.

The DDA selected Stantec due to:

  • A global footprint and decades of experience engaged in mobility planning, land development services, engineering, architecture, environmental sciences, construction services, project management and project economics.

  • Similar studies for Atlanta, Alpharetta, Norcross, Savannah and Chattanooga and developed an Intelligent Transportation System ("ITS") master plan for Roswell.

Meet Stantec

Team members of the Stantec Urban Mobility Group have extensive nationwide experience in preparing both parking studies and city transportation master plans. Their Urban Mobility Group specializes in tackling the unique transportation challenges facing urban areas – walking and driving conflicts, constrained parking and limited revenue sources.

Working with City staff and key stakeholders, Stantec will identify, collect, and review all relevant and available data, reports, plans, and studies related to parking, land use, and relevant transportation programs in Roswell. Their goal will be to not only understand how parking is used but what motivates people to park how they do, whether that is their preferred practice or the result of demand factors that influence their choices. The final Study will provide a future plan assessment and policy and management strategies.
